MiHoYo's Genshin Impact, a live-service RPG developed by MiHoYo, has quickly become one of the most loved in recent times. With its beautiful, stylized, open-world, whimsical characters and kickass fighting system, it's not hard to see why. The game was launched in 2020. It's a better package than it was two years ago, thanks to numerous updates that have added characters, storylines and vast areas to explore. Genshin Impact is a great game for those who are tired of the same old games.
Tower of Fantasy
Tower of Fantasy is the closest game to Genshin Impact. Its aesthetic was clearly inspired from miHoYo's success. Twinfinite reviewed the game earlier in the year, and found many things to love about it. They called it a great alternative to Genshin Impact.
Tower of Fantasy has deep RPG mechanics and an anime-like open world to Genshin Impact. It also features a gacha system that will feel familiar. Genshin Impact's storylines and characters may not be as captivating, but they are still compelling. It's fair to say that Tower of Fantasy is a more traditional MMO experience and that its main focus is the multiplayer gameplay.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
In the weeks leading up to Genshin Impact's launch, there were many articles comparing the game with Nintendo's Zelda series and Breath of the Wild in particular. This was not surprising considering that there were very few open-world games at the time that featured the same stylized, cel-shaded aesthetic as both Nintendo and MiHoyo. Both games have a similar vibrant and charming vibe, despite sharing some survival systems like cooking.
However, this is more or less the end of their similarities. Genshin Impact is a completely different experience than Breath of Wild, and their stories are very different. Genshin Impact doesn't look like the Breath of Wild clone that many people thought it was. If you are a Genshin Impact enthusiast, this shouldn't stop you from playing Breath of the Wild. It is absolutely the best open-world adventure/action game ever made.
Twinfinite's review of Breath of the Wild provides more details.
Honkai Impact 3rd
Technically, you don't need to look beyond developer miHoYo for a Genshin Impact-like game. This is the basic template from which Genshin Impact was built, although the games play slightly differently.
It retains the anime-like charm of its storyline and aesthetic, and combat has many similarities to Genshin Impact. The emphasis on dungeon running in solo and multiplayer modes is also very similar to Genshin Impact. If you enjoy that aspect of Genshin Impact, there's also a gacha system.
However, the levels are designed differently. Honkai Impact 3rd does not offer an open-world experience. It's more linear and features mini-games like platforming, bullet hell shoot em up gameplay, and other seasonal events that separate the main combat.
Immortals Fenyx Rising
Ubisoft was inspired by the success of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Genshin Impact to create its own open-world cel-shaded game. Immortals: Fenyx Rising was the result. It's a Zelda-like game with a strong focus on RPG mechanics.
Immortal Fenyx Rising is actually a game that was created by the same team who developed Assassin's Creed Origins. This series was the first to place a greater emphasis on RPG design, and a favourite amongst fans. You will love the combination of open-world gameplay and a world filled with fantastical creatures and whimsical mythology in Immortals Feenyx Rising.
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
Ni No Kuni 2 : Revenant Kingdom, like its predecessor Wrath White Witch is an excellent JRPG experience and a must-play game for Genshin Impact players. Revenant Kingdom is a great example of this, with its battle system and focus on exploration. Genshin Impact fans who love the anime-like qualities will also find the Ni No Kuni games to be exceedingly entertaining with their stunning cutscenes, especially the original, which featured animation by Studio Ghibli.
Both games have a great storyline and characters. The plots are captivating, which will keep you engaged throughout. Both games also feature addictive catch-em-all Pokemon-like monster fighting that makes them addictive. The kingdom-building mechanic in Revenant Kingdom also allows you to create a sprawling place to call your home.
Twinfinite loved Ni No Kuni 2 : Revenant Kingdom. In 2018, Twinfinite gave the game 5/5.
Dragon Quest XI - Echoes of an Elusive Age
Echoes of an Elusive Age is arguably the most enjoyable Dragon Quest game yet. It's adored both by long-time fans and newcomers. It is both the ideal entry point and the ultimate JRPG for enthusiasts. In terms of visual style and general vibe, it shares many similarities with Genshin Impact.
Dragon Quest XI's combat system is slightly different. It uses a turn-based system instead of real-time. However, it does put a twist on the traditional turn-based loop by allowing players freedom of movement during battles. If you love the rich, engaging RPG mechanics of Genshin Impact, you will feel right at home in DQXI.
Twinfinite has written a glowing review of Dragon Quest XI - Echoes of an Elusive Age.
Tales of Arise
Since its inception, the Tales series has been a staple of the JRPG world. It's been around for more than a decade. Tales of Arise is its most recent game. Its refined combat mechanics and stunning presentation are what make it stand out. There are also charming cutscenes that resemble anime.
The Tales story is very familiar JRPG stuff. It doesn't depart too much from the Tales blueprint. This is disappointing for returning fans who want a different narrative. It's not offensive, but it's not really offensive. The real meat of the Tales experience is its compelling gameplay and deep RPG system.

Persona 5: Royale
Persona 5 Royale is the most outstanding Persona game yet. It's a landmark in the JRPG world, and the Persona franchise is an absolute benchmark. This is an enhanced version of a brilliant original game that features stunning storytelling and characters and one of the most engaging turn-based combat systems ever created.
Genshin Impact is a similar game to Persona 5. However, the game offers a different kind of open-world exploration experience. The game takes place in Tokyo's suburbs and in an alternate realm that is ruled over by the twisted versions of their parents. Persona 5 is for you if anime-style storytelling is your thing and you love JRPG battle tactics.
Twinfinite's 2020 game review concluded:
"There's a lot of content in Persona 5 Royal. I was overwhelmed by it all. Royal deserves the highest praise.
