The MX vs. TV series has been a failure since the end of the seventh generation console generation. The PS4's two titles were widely maligned and the PS5 isn't faring much better.

Races with dirt bikes, UTVs, and ATVs are the main part of this game. This serves as both a blessing AND a curse. It is certainly a tempting idea to offer multiple racing disciplines in one package. This means that instead of one experience, you get three, which you will need to use in order to move the campaign forward.

ATVs are the best because they offer arcade racing and good controls. UTVs and dirt bikes require a lot more work. UTVs are so difficult to control that it is hard to drive straight. UTVs also easily catch on objects in the environment, halting all momentum. UTVs would have been a lot less frustrating, as they make driving unpleasant.

Although dirt bikes are better than UTVs they still leave much to be desired. The game's new physics system is one of its best features, but it makes cornering and picking your tracks feel awkward and weightless. The DualSense's rumble capabilities could have been more helpful in tactility, but it is just wrong bike handling.

Collisions are not helpful either. The majority of obstacles you should avoid have little effect on your rider. This makes for an experience that is a lot more dependent on the reset button. It's not easy to use the reset button. The time it takes to reset an auto game can vary from instant to very long. The manual reset button can take a long time to activate so it's worth to tossing the coin as to which option will get your back in the race the fastest. Unless you respawn or get flattened and beaten by an AI rider. Many of these riders seem to believe that crashing into a wall will be the only way to make a turn.

The new "trails" mode is a checkpoint-type race with more varied terrain. It's the one bright spot. It's very fun and chaotic, which makes it a great choice among many lows. MX vs. ATV Legends is about that: this racer is far more flawed than other ones on the market.
